The Potter Fever

Harry potter through the years cover

Well, Happy New year everyone, hope 2017 brings you the success, prosperity and happiness.

It's the start of 2017 and the time has come for me to confess to all you muggles (non-magical people) out there that I am a wizard, or at least I wish I was. Think back to all those days you spent wishing you were at Hogwarts.

Oh come on, we've all wished for it at least once in our lives. Some probably more than others (you know who you are), but the fact remains that even after; 10 books (Including the "Hogwarts Library" books),  8 films and 1 stage script, we still just can't get enough of the Potter series!

I ask (with enthusiasm) what is this craze?!?!?

I was only 10 when I picked up my first copy of the world renowned Harry Potter book series by the awesome J. K Rowling! I'm certain that for all those who read the books, it didn't take long for it to take that special space in our hearts. After all who could deny or even resist a visit to Hogwarts; the world famous school of witchcraft and wizardry, all from the comfort of your very own imagination.

Priding myself in being a Ravenclaw (As decided by Pottermore.com), with a black and white cat as my Patronus and an 11 inches, unicorn haired, spruce wood wand which has "surprisingly swishy flexibility" from Olivanders, who can dare say I'm not a wizard, or at the very least somewhat of a Potter Fan!

But what is it about the Harry Potter franchise that wakes that child within us? Thinking along these lines I came up with 3 reasons, that make me truly love the Harry Potter franchise:

Harry potter books collage
01) The Books:

The year was 1997 and after being rejected by many publishers, Bloomsburry took on J. K Rowling's masterpiece! Let's face it, if it wasn't for the amazing depth and precision of the books we wouldn't have ever gotten to know Harry, let alone admire his courage. Each successive binding brought with it further depth and elaboration of the wizarding world, fuelling the curiosity of readers and fans alike.

02) Not your typical hero.

Harry potter weakness

Unlike action movies where the hero is unrealistically equipped with relentless courage, power and charm, Rowling exposes to us Harry's vulnerabilities, weaknesses and flawed thus allowing us to relate to him. And if Harry doesn't interest you, you have a selection of other characters to keep you company ranging from Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger or the wise Albus Dumbledore.

Molly Weasley
03) Makes you appreciate your Mum.

Lilly Potter died for Harry, Molly Weasley would do anything to keep her family together and arguably even Narcissa Malfoy can be added to that list due to her actions in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. We are surrounded by a society wherein the value of family is on the decline. Such mothers serve as a role model, helping us understand the true value of the person we call mum. perhaps this is down to the pain that J.K. Rowling felt when her mother passed away that the mother figure in the books plays a pivotal role.

Well, there are my reasons, leave a comment below to share your reasons!
